    ABOUT ME

Dr. Addisu Mekonnen is a wildlife ecologist and conservation biologist with a research emphasis in ecology, landscape ecology, wildlife management, population monitoring, animal behavior, geospatial ecology, population genetics, evolutionary biology, wildlife conservation, restoration ecology, and habitat management. My research is broad focusing on understanding the effects of habitat alteration and climate change (anthropogenic and natural factors) on non-human primates and other wildlife, including population status, foraging ecology, movement ecology, behavior, genetics, population ecology, evolutionary biology, and key life-history traits. My research applies fundamental knowledge and develops novel approaches to design successful wildlife conservation and management strategies aiming to restore degraded habitats and recover the populations of species at risk of extinction. My research integrates fieldwork, laboratory work (genetics), and geospatial analyses (GIS and remote sensing). I conduct my research in southern Ethiopia, where I am a director of the Bale Monkey and Bamboo Research Project, which is a long-term field study (over 15 years) in the Odobullu Forest of the Bale Mountains and two fragmented forests in the Sidamo Highlands. I also work on the ecology and conservation of other wildlife research and conservation projects globally.
